Facilities
At Abbey practical work and investigation is central to the teaching of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and so each subject is taught in a modern, subject specific laboratory. Each room has been recently fitted to modern standards and is well equipped to allow the delivery of a wide range of experimentation and demonstration to stimulate student learning.
ICT is a popular subject and benefits from a hands-on, practical approach in the ICT laboratory where, along with broadband internet access, students can develop their ICT skills and understanding using a suite of software packages for photo and movie editing, website design and animation. The student study rooms also have ICT facilities which students are encouraged to use for independent work.
Creative subjects such as Art and Media are taught in dedicated rooms and students can express themselves using techniques ranging form 3D modelling, textiles and film making as well as conventional painting and drawing.
Teaching throughout the college is supported by the audio visual technology such as Interactive White Boards and Plasma Screens. These add colour and variety to the learning experience.
We are delighted with our A Level results this year and the most pleasing aspect is that, despite the concerns raised in the national press, almost all of our students have gained places in their chosen courses and universities.
Our value-added for A Level students is 1.5 grades above their baseline attainment and for Retake A Levels the average grade increase is 3 grades.
Congratulations to all our A Level students.
